Mariota specialises in on-shore Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax planning for individuals and families including advice on lifetime gifts of capital and income, both outright and through trusts, the drafting of Wills and Letters of Wishes and the administration of estates including post-death deeds of variation.
Her work includes advising on trust law, and all aspects of drafting and administration of trusts including acting as trustee in a wide variety of family and charitable trusts as well as acting as an Executor of Wills.
Mariota has a particular interest in the subject of mental capacity especially as developing under the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the work of the Office of the Public Guardian and the Court of Protection, including advising on Powers of Attorney and the management of financial affairs of clients lacking capacity, especially the elderly, and advising on contentious issues arising out of doubts as to capacity in respect of lifetime gifts and Wills.
