With a breadth of experience in general civil litigation, Matthew specialises in resolving all types of property dispute. He acts for a range of corporate and individual clients handling real estate matters (such as rights of way or rights of light concerning development), and dealing with landlord and tenant/property management issues in both commercial and residential sectors (from industrial estates to residential flats).
He has a notable niche practice in leasehold enfranchisement, and recently took a case to the portals of the Supreme Court regarding qualifying criteria under the 1967 Act. He has represented both landlords and tenants in disputes involving service charges at Leasehold Valuation Tribunal, County Court and High Court level.
Matthew's property practice has expanded into the field of construction law where he advises on performance and payment, negligence and damage issues arising under and out of JCT and other construction contracts, as well as resolving disputes through adjudication.
He advises individuals and companies on insolvency issues, as well as having experience in acting for Administrators, LPA Receivers and Trustees in Bankruptcy. His work also includes asset recovery in the context of trust litigation and contentious probate matters.
Matthew is a member of the Property Litigation Association and the London Solicitors Litigation Association.
